class=\"bde-rich-text-77-346 bde-rich-text breakdance-rich-text-styles\">\n<p>The Heart-2 study is a clinical trial for people with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) and\/or premature coronary artery disease (CAD) who require additional lowering of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). The purpose of the Heart-2 study is to assess the safety and tolerability of VERVE-102 and see if it can help lower LDL-C levels with a single dose.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>VERVE-102 is designed to permanently turn off the production of the PCSK9 protein in the liver by inactivating the <em>PCSK9<\/em> gene using an approach called gene editing. This may reduce LDL-C levels in the bloodstream. This means they have inherited the condition. There is often a family history of high LDL-C or cardiovascular (CV) events such as heart attacks or strokes early in life.\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-column-77-360 bde-column\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"bde-heading-77-361 bde-heading\">\nPremature CAD\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-77-362 bde-text\">\nCoronary artery disease, or CAD, results from the fatty deposits forming in the arteries that supply blood and nutrients to the heart, called coronary arteries. CAD usually develops later in life. It is considered premature CAD in people who have developed serious heart disease due to high cholesterol before the age of 65 in women or before the age of 55 in men.
